On Sunday, November 15, beginning at 1 p.m. CST (remember to set your clocks back), winners from the 2020 Helen Schaible International Sonnet Contest will be reading their winning sonnets on Zoom.

Winners from both the traditional sonnet division and the modern sonnet division are invited to read their work. In addition, there will be a short talk afterwards by Wilda Morris, Workshop Chair of Poets & Patrons of Chicago, on “What Is a Modern Sonnet?”

Contest Categories & Rules

Categories:
#1 Traditional Sonnet – Shakespearean or Petrarchan
#2 Modern Sonnet (see rules for a definition of a Modern Sonnet)

Open to All. Free. You may enter both Category #1 and Category #2, if you wish, but only one poem in each category. The entries must be original and unpublished. Poets can only win in one category.

Contest Prizes

Prizes for both categories: First Prize: $50. Second Prize: $35. Third Prize: $15.
Three Honorable Mentions, Unranked.

No judges are affiliated with Poets & Patrons. All judges' decisions are final.

There is no fee. Winners will be notified by late October, 2020. The poet keeps all rights. No entries will be returned. A list of winners will be posted on the Poets & Patrons website, www.poetsandpatrons/contest-winners.net
